Ariel
Company Theatre - Drama
Academy
(Ariel Drama Plus)
---------------------------
We attended the recent showcase at the
Hawth Theatre on 14th July, our first. It was a great night. The
young performers were all extremely talented, many worthy of
a west end stage. Our Daughter is a member of the Othello's
group and made us all very proud to see her on stage throwing
herself into the performance. Being part of Othello's is doing
wonders for her self confidence.
---------------------------
"I
cannot speak too highly of Ariel as a Company and its teaching
staff.
I am a mother of 4
and a teacher myself and know how precious time is, but it amazes me the amount
of time and energy all the staff put in.
My 12 year old son
has attended Ariel since October 2007 and LOVES it!! In his words it's "cool
and groovy!".
We choose Ariel
after friends recommended it and as well as being great value for money
(important these days) it is the ethos and atmosphere of the whole company that
really pulls you in.
Ariel is inclusive,
with strong links to the QE 2 school in Horsham, and this follows through in all
the productions, big or small ,they put on. We liked this.
Each child is seen
as an individual and I really feel the staff get the best out of my son because
they have taken time to notice his strengths and his weaknesses.
It may sound a
cliché, but in an age where sporting achievements often seem to be prized above
all else, my "arts" loving son is not afraid to declare his passion for acting
,singing and drama-it's encouraged at Ariel!! He has made some lasting
friendships with like minded children as have I, helping out backstage at
productions.
Since he joined
Ariel he has been given some great opportunities including LAMDA exams,
showcases and auditions for professional shows. There are often workshops over
the holidays and lots of productions to go and see.
The staff are
approachable and completely dedicated- never more than an email or phone
call away.
To sum up Ariel it
feels like a second family and we would be lost each Saturday without it !!!

"It has been the most positive decisions to send my children to Ariel Drama
Plus"
---------------------------
They not only do they provide first class Theatrical Training, but such great
life skills that they can pull on in later life.
-----------------------------
"Bxxx has had the time of his life since joining, making such a varied group
of friends, which has helped him so much, not just to relying on his school
friends".
-------------------------------
"The planning of the lessons is obvious, with what I saw at last months
showcase, a lot of thought and planning has gone into it all, what a great
night".
-------------------------------
"My son is home taught and Ariel is the only group that he attends, he has
grown in confidence so much and cannot wait for Saturdays"
-------------------------------
"Ariel has give my daughter so many many opportunities they would have not
got normally".
-------------------------------
"The quality of the teaching is outstanding and in particular the LAMDA
training"
-------------------------------
"Thanks to all the tutors my child has improved at mainstream School, and
the increase in confidence has been noted by the Teachers"!
-------------------------------
"The difference with Ariel is that it really stretches my son, and gives him
what he wants, high quality lessons, with creative and exciting teachers,
thanks"
-------------------------------
My teenage daughter was bored, bored, bored at home on Saturdays and wanted
to be "doing" something. So, after some enquiries, we opted for Ariel which
fitted in with my busy
work schedule too! Now she feels she's learning something new every week,
has made another, wider circle of friends and has honed her presentation and
confidence skills. The
group's managers are friendly and approachable and the class teachers
skilled, professional and diverse. With so much on offer for teens in the
entertainment industry at the
moment I was prepared to be picky about how good a quality of teaching my
daughter would be getting - and I'm completely satisfied. Thanks, Ariel! M L

I was really struggling to find a drama school that was well disciplined, fun
but also one that really challenges young actors and actresses.
I heard of ADP through doing Les Miserables and from the moment I joined I
knew I was going to love it!! I was shocked by it at first...but it was
exactly what I was looking
for. The singing and dancing was so much fun and the drama was AMAZING!!
I've really learnt so much about all three arts and have loved being trained
up to be an actress.
Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, but most of all I have made lots of
friends for life.
------------------------------
Kxxxx has no problem getting up early on Saturday to go to drama she loves
it! We think its well organised, professional and the team are enthusiastic,
energetic and
motivational.
------------------------------
The whole ADP experience has had a significant & positive impact on
Kxxxxxx. As well exposing and embellishing her acting & singing skills,
her self-confidence, social &
communication skills have developed in a very pleasing way. The way the ADP
team work with the students is great to see and 3 years in, I hope Kxxxxx
remains involved for
many many more years to come. Kxxxx'x involvement with ADP has opened
many new doors for her and see absolutely loves her Saturday mornings.
Meeting and working with other children from other parts of the locality,
and other schools is an additional bonus which again has been a significant
learning experience.
Thanks to all the ADP team for providing so much to Kxxxxxx & her peers.

"Ariel Company Theatre has allowed my son to fill 3 hours every week of his
3 most favourite passions and has allowed him the freedom of self expression
he cant get at school "
--------------------------------
Our son Txxxxx has been a member of Ariel Company Theatre for almost two and
a half years now. I can not thank them enough or speak more highly about
everyone at Ariel, they
are fantastic. Txxxx has also made some very strong and I hope lasting
friendships at Ariel.
Txxxx has had so many brilliant experiences and opportunities by being a
pupil with Ariel.
They are all very professional and encourage each and every one of their
pupils.
The teachers at Ariel are just great and are all so very talented, all you
need do is watch one of their shows to realise this.
Txxxxx absolutely loves his time with Ariel, whether it is on a Saturday
morning, during a holiday workshop or in performance, he would go to Ariel 7
days a week if he could.
Lots of Love
C and C .

"It has been great to see my daughters blossom and grow in confidence at
Ariel Drama. I am particularly pleased that they have the opportunity to mix
and work with boys and
girls of all ages. They always have fun on a Saturday and return smiling!"
-------------------------------------
Sxxxx has benefited enormously since joining ACT, her confidence has
increased and she looks forward to Saturday mornings. She went through a
spell of not wanting to join in a
few months ago, but due to the dedication and perseverance of your staff she
now takes part in everything and is thoroughly enjoying it.
------------------------------------
Jxxxxx and
Mxxxxx have been attending Ariel for about a year now and last weekend were as
enthusiastic about the morning as they were when they first started. Michael has
found his niche in life and feels he is being accepted for what he his (not a
football player). Jasmine has developed a confidence that she didn't know she
had and her recent Juliet in the Warden Park school show moved me to tears, (I
understand her recent monologue in Ariel was equally powerful). Ariel has been
key to the development of my children and we look eagerly forward to the show
case and future productions. Many thanks to you and all your team.

ARIEL OTHELLO'S
'Othello’s is not just the name of a drama group, it is synonymous with
excellence. Ever since our son Jxx first attended Othello’s he cannot wait
for each Saturday morning to
come round. And if we are on holiday, or through other family commitments he
is unable to attend, his disappointment is palpable.
The whole ethos of the group, and the supportive and patient attitude shown
by the leaders, only brings out the best in the pupils attending. This has
certainly proved to be
the case for Jxx With the help of his 'buddies' at Ariel Othello’s he has
managed to learn complex routines and take stage direction, allowing him to
perform on stage
confidently and with others of all ages and abilities.
Thank you for allowing Jxx to be part of that process, and for ourselves the
privilege of witnessing it.'
J and A Mxxxxx.
6th May 2009.
--------------------------------------------------------
I felt so privileged on Saturday 2 May 2009 to have finally been able to
come along and see for myself the outstanding work carried out by the group
of young people who assist
in the Othello’s section of Arial Drama Plus.
I have been aware for some time that there are a number of young people with
special needs who you support through drama to help them develop as
confident and independent
members of our communities. I was also aware of the fact that five or six
teenagers, who do not have such needs, come along regularly to help that
group.
What I don’t think I fully understood, and was certainly not prepared for,
was the outstanding way that those with special needs and those without were
essentially one group.
I saw them rehearse a highly amusing “Superheroes” comedy medley and start
to rehearse a signed number from the Lion King which they will perform
publicly in a month’s time.
It was very clear to me that the group of young helpers were completely
committed to making those with special needs feel at ease, valued and as
much part of one group as they
were themselves. The young people with special needs seemed to relate to all
of the helpers as good friends, and certainly in the pieces of drama that I
saw, both groups had equally prominent parts and were brilliantly integrated.
The young helpers themselves, clearly had no prejudices against working with
young people with special needs and they were not in the slightest bit
patronising, nor did they
treat them any differently from their fellow helpers. I often hear the public denigrate our youth by
blaming them for all ills of society. Often, people don’t see the huge
strengths and contributions
that young people can bring to their communities, they only highlight the
wrongs of a very small minority.

------------------------------------------------------
My son Rxxx has been attending Othello’s since it started three years ago.
He is fourteen years old, has Downs Syndrome and has a passion for singing,
dancing and acting.
When Sue Jay, with the support of ACT, started the group in 2006, its
membership consisted of a handful of special needs students, three adults
and one or two mainstream
students from ADP who were interested in helping out. The rest, as they say,
is history. The group has grown in reputation and consequently size because
it offers a very
high standard of dramatic arts education for students with special needs, in
a quite unique supportive and totally inclusive environment.
The mainstream ‘buddies’ as they have become affectionately known give up
their time, very early, on a Saturday morning to support and more
importantly encourage the students
that attend the class. All students work together as a team bouncing ideas
off each other and developing their performances as a whole group. So
effective is the buddy system
that the adults (apart from Sxx, of course) are almost becoming excess to
requirements!!!
The support given by the buddies has been so successful that it has enabled
the special needs students to confidently take part in the mainstream ADP
morning, consisting of an
hour each of drama, singing and dance. The tutors have realistically high
expectations of the Othello students and thanks to the understanding and
support of students,
particularly the buddies, and adults around them, they are able to access
the classes at their own level.
Rxxxx loves Othello’s. He has made special friends with his buddies and he
socialises with some of them outside ADP hours. This is an invaluable
experience for him as it has
boosted his confidence and self esteem greatly and enhanced his social
skills beyond our expectations. In short Othello’s and the whole ADP family
has transformed his life.
Thank you.
