Message from Nigel.... Some time ago I was asked to become patron of "Ariel Company Theatre". I had never heard of ‘Ariel’. Burgess Hill, East Grinstead, Steyning, Haywards Heath and Crawley were, as far as I was concerned a very long way away!

I had been asked to become a patron in the past and had always politely declined, citing that I was either "too busy", "it's just not the right time" and "I wouldn't be patron at a drama school even if it was the last one on earth.” O.K. so I didn't say that last one but I wanted to at times, believe me!

So I came to Ariel one Saturday morning; it wasn't quite raining but the heavens were getting very dark and this painted an ominous picture whilst driving down the A23. But to my delight, from the moment I walked into ‘Ariel Drama Academy’ I knew - firstly from the large amount of students ranging from 4 – 19 years of age. They all so obviously wanted to be there at the Academy. The staff so professional, attuned, caring, patient and, above all, challenging the kids and not baby-sitting them! They demonstrated a passion, enabling the students to learn, work and discover, while never losing sight of their own uniqueness. This is something some full-time performance schools fail to grasp. Oh, and they made me a really nice cup of tea with biscuits as well. How are you going to say NO after that! I could go on, talking about the wonderful shows they have staged to such a professional level, but I'm sure you have, or will, discover all this for yourselves - Maybe not the nice cup of tea part but most definitely go see the productions!

On a broader note I think the lessons you can learn, besides the obvious technical ones, are the most valuable of all: starting to get to know yourself; building confidence and self-esteem, which can be taken out into the wider world; a sense of pride and achievement; and who knows, if you stay with it, the beginnings of a long and interesting career.

I am passionate about what I do for a living, and in ‘Ariel’ I have found a company that equals my passion - if not goes beyond it! It is with all this in mind that I say YES! YES! YES! to becoming their patron.

Tim has just finished filming series 3 of ‘The Last Kingdom’ where He was in Budapest for 6 months playing King Alfred’s son Edward. Series 3 will be airing on Netflix later this year as part of their Netflix original series.

From Tim: "Being apart of Ariel Theatre Company gave me many opportunities to perform and surround myself with others who felt passionate about theatre and performing as I did. It also let me work with professional directors and actors giving me the perfect platform and confidence for what I wanted to do after leaving school which was to do it professionally"

Peter Joined Ariel aged 11, and whilst studying and performing at the academy learnt many skills he still uses today including social skills, performance skills, and the ability to deal with anxiety and pressure. Pete then shared the skills he learnt whilst teaching at the academies as well as workshops run by Ariel.
Pete went on to study ‘Bmus Contemporary Music Performance’, and since returning to Brighton, Pete has completed a live session for ‘BBC Sussex’, won Battle of the Bands with ‘Elias Kopp’, as well as investing in his other passion of songwriting and production and is currently working with other artists creating new and exciting music.
Pete can be seen playing his ‘Little Man Drums’ with party bands around the UK as well as session work for local Brighton based artists.

I am currently studying for a degree in musical theatre at Trinity Laban Conservatoire having performed in 4 of their shows, one being the lead in their touring production of Seussical. I have recently been nominated for the Ian Fleming Award and in the process of completing it in July 2018 to help with my final year of university and to help me gain employment in the West End. On the 1st July 2018 I am releasing my first album titled “A Smile Goes A Long Way”. Since I left Ariel as a student I have been running my own gigging service under the name of Tom Ball Gigs and is going very well. Although I left Ariel as a student I never fully left Ariel as a whole, still returning for shows and helping out. The 10 years I spent as a student were so much fun and shaped me as the performer I am now, while having a lot of fun

I’ve released a couple singles so far which have had such an amazingly lovely reception so hope to be writing and releasing more music and touring for the rest of 2018.

I was in Ariel for a couple of years and had a great time; I loved the people there and getting to experiment in creative areas that weren’t as natural to me was so fun. A lovely community and a great time always.

After completing a master’s degree in Choral Conducting at Westminster Choir College (located in Princeton, NJ, USA), I took on the position of choral director for a music charity, working with disadvantaged children in India.

I attended Ariel from the ages of 13-16, and thoroughly enjoyed the many performance opportunities, as well as the classes with wonderful tutors and friends. I am now able to pass on some of what I learnt to children in another part of the world!
